Since 2022 it has been a criminal offence in England to provide or advertise contract cheating services to students. Legitimate UK assignment help provides tutoring, model answers and feedback on your own work; it never supplies a document to submit as your own.
The law changed in 2022
The Skills and Post-16 Education Act 2022 made it an offence in England to provide, arrange or advertise cheating services for students at post-16 institutions. The offence sits with the provider rather than the student, but a student using such a service still faces the full weight of their university's academic misconduct process.
This is why the distinction between tutoring and contract cheating is not a marketing nuance. One is a normal educational service; the other is now illegal to supply in England and treated as serious misconduct everywhere in the UK.
What legitimate support actually includes
The dividing line is whether the work you submit is yours. Support that helps you produce better work of your own is legitimate and widely used, including by universities themselves through writing centres and study skills services.
- Tutoring on structure, argument and method.
- Model answers on comparable questions, not on your exact brief.
- Feedback on a draft you have written.
- Referencing checks in your required style.
- Similarity review so you can correct citation problems before submitting.
What falls outside is equally clear: a completed assignment written to your brief for you to submit, sitting an assessment on your behalf, or anything designed to disguise authorship.
The claims that identify a service to avoid
Certain promises can only be made by a service operating outside the rules, because they are not deliverable otherwise.
- "Guaranteed 2:1 or your money back." Nobody outside your institution controls your mark.
- "Undetectable" or "bypasses Turnitin" — an explicit offer to help you deceive.
- "AI detection removal." The same, with newer vocabulary.
- "We'll sit your online exam." Impersonation, and among the most serious offences.
- Ghostwritten work sold as "a sample you can submit." The qualifier changes nothing.
Our guide to whether assignment help is legal in the UK covers the statutory position in more detail, and what assignment help should cost covers pricing red flags.
Practical checks before you pay
Ask what exactly you receive. A legitimate service describes a deliverable — a structure review, annotated feedback, a tutoring session — rather than "your assignment, completed". Ask whether the price is fixed before work begins, because per-page pricing with a vague page definition is where disputes start.
Check whether an academic integrity policy exists and says something specific. A service unwilling to state its boundary in writing has usually not set one.
If you have already used an essay mill
Blackmail is a known and growing pattern: some operators later threaten to report students unless further payments are made. Institutions are aware of this, and self-reporting before an allegation is made is treated very differently from being caught. Your students' union can advise confidentially, and our guide to preparing for a misconduct hearing sets out the process.
Your university already provides some of this
Before paying anyone, check what your institution offers, because a great deal of it is free and under-used. UK universities run academic skills teams, subject librarians, writing advisers, dissertation workshops and drop-in sessions, and postgraduate students routinely finish a degree without using any of them.
These services are staffed by people who know your institution's marking conventions specifically, which no external service can match. Where they fall short is availability at deadline and subject-specific depth — a generalist study skills adviser cannot tell you that your framework choice is wrong. That gap is where paid subject tutoring genuinely adds something, and it is worth being clear that it is a gap rather than a replacement.
How we operate
Our UK assignment help is tutoring, structure guidance, referencing review and feedback on work you have written. We do not write submissions and we do not promise grades. Our academic integrity policy states that boundary in full.
Frequently asked questions
Is using assignment help legal in the UK?
Tutoring, feedback and study support are legal and widely used, including by universities themselves. Since the Skills and Post-16 Education Act 2022 it is an offence in England to provide or advertise contract cheating services, and using one is academic misconduct.
What is the difference between tutoring and contract cheating?
Whether the work you submit is yours. Tutoring helps you produce better work of your own through structure guidance, model answers on comparable questions and feedback on your drafts. Contract cheating supplies a document for you to submit as your own.
What claims mean a service should be avoided?
Guaranteed grades, "undetectable" work, bypassing Turnitin, AI detection removal, and offers to sit an exam for you. These can only be offered by a service operating outside the rules, because nobody outside your institution controls your mark.
What should I do if I have already used an essay mill?
Take advice quickly, ideally from your students’ union, which can help confidentially. Self-reporting before an allegation is made is treated very differently from being caught, and blackmail by operators is a known pattern institutions already recognise.
