How do I apply IRAC critically?
Weak IRAC states a rule and asserts a conclusion. Critical IRAC identifies which authority genuinely governs the facts, acknowledges where the law is unsettled or the authorities conflict, applies the rule to the specific facts rather than restating it, and reaches a conclusion that could survive a counter-argument.
What is the correct OSCOLA citation format?
OSCOLA is a footnoting style with no in-text citation, and every proposition needs a pinpoint to the exact page or paragraph. Cases take square brackets where the year locates the report and round brackets where the volume does. Missing pinpoints is the most heavily penalised OSCOLA error.
Can I cite a case an AI tool gave me?
Only after finding and reading it in a law report or database. Generative tools routinely produce citations that look impeccable and do not exist, and a fabricated authority is treated far more seriously than a formatting error. Verify every case before it enters a footnote.
