Institutional policies permit more than students expect
Canadian academic integrity policies generally permit tutoring, writing centres, peer study groups and editing within stated limits. Many institutions publish an editing policy specifying what a third party may and may not change — typically language and clarity, not content or argument.
- Tutoring on method, structure and concepts.
- Feedback on a draft you have written.
- Model answers on comparable questions rather than your assignment.
- Referencing checks in your required style.
- Language editing where the policy allows it — check the limits.
Where an editing policy exists, read it. Some Canadian institutions require students to declare that editing assistance was received.
Claims that identify a provider to avoid
A few promises are only available from a service operating outside the rules.
- Guaranteed grades or GPA. Your grade is assigned by your instructor.
- "Undetectable" or "bypasses Turnitin." An explicit offer to help you deceive.
- "AI detection removal." The same offer, restated.
- Writing your exam or accessing your LMS. Impersonation, and sharing credentials breaches policy by itself.
- Completed assignments described as "samples". The wording changes nothing.
Turnitin is not the only detection route
Canadian institutions use similarity checking widely, but most misconduct cases begin with an instructor noticing a change in voice, an argument inconsistent with class contribution, or sources that do not exist. Detection is rarely purely technological, which is why "undetectable" is a meaningless claim.

If something has gone wrong

Student unions and ombudspersons at Canadian universities provide confidential advice, and using them early materially improves outcomes.
Ask what happens to your information
Alongside the integrity question is a practical one: what does a provider retain, and under what jurisdiction? A service holding your name, institution, assignment brief and payment details creates a record, and those records have been used to pressure students afterwards.
Legitimate providers publish a privacy policy, accept payment through recognised processors rather than direct transfers to an individual, and never require your institutional email or learning platform credentials. Sharing those credentials breaches most Canadian academic integrity policies by itself, before anything is done with the access.
