Australia was among the first countries to criminalise commercial contract cheating. Under amendments to the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act, it is an offence to provide or advertise academic cheating services to students at Australian institutions, with substantial penalties.

The offence sits with the provider — the consequence with you
The criminal liability falls on the business, not the student. That is cold comfort, because the academic consequence falls entirely on the student: misconduct findings, unit failure, suspension, and for international students potential visa implications through course progress requirements.
Australian institutions also share intelligence about known services, and detection has become considerably more sophisticated than students assume.
What legitimate support looks like
The boundary is authorship. Support that helps you produce better work of your own is legitimate and universities provide it themselves through learning skills advisers and academic support units.
- Tutoring on structure, method and framework application.
- Feedback on a draft you have written.
- Model answers on comparable questions, not your exact assessment.
- Referencing review in your required style.
- Similarity report review so you can correct problems before submitting.
Claims that identify a service to avoid
Some promises are only possible from a provider operating outside the law.
- Guaranteed HD or Distinction. Nobody outside your university sets your grade.
- "Undetectable" or "bypasses Turnitin." An explicit offer to help you deceive.
- "AI detection removal." The same, in current language.
- Sitting your online exam. Impersonation, and among the most serious findings available.
- Completed assessments sold as "samples". The label does not change what it is.
Blackmail is a documented risk
Australian universities have publicly warned about contract cheating operators later blackmailing students, threatening to report them unless further payments are made. Because the operator is committing an offence, students often assume they cannot seek help. They can.
Institutions treat a student who comes forward very differently from one who is caught, and student associations can advise confidentially.
Practical checks
Ask what you actually receive; a legitimate provider names a deliverable rather than "your assignment, done". Ask for a fixed price before work begins. Check that an academic integrity policy exists and says something specific rather than reassuring. Never share your university login — that breaches conduct rules by itself.
Your university provides help already
Australian universities fund academic skills advisers, learning support units, subject librarians and peer-assisted study sessions, and most students finish a degree without using them. They are free, they are staffed by people who know your institution's marking conventions specifically, and they are entirely within policy.
Their limitations are availability near deadlines and subject depth: a general academic skills adviser can improve your structure but usually cannot tell you that your framework choice does not fit the case.
