Ask your programme what happens if the client withdraws — the answer tells you how much risk you are taking.

Capstones are frequently assumed to be the softer option. They are not, but the difficulty sits elsewhere.
- Dissertation difficulty is methodological: justifying a design, defending a sample, explaining what your data cannot show.
- Capstone difficulty is relational and commercial: extracting a brief from a client who has not defined the problem, obtaining data from people with no obligation to help, and delivering something useful within constraints you did not choose.
How Marking Differs
Dissertations are marked on research quality: the question, the literature engagement, the method, the analysis, the limitations.
